Teacher Inquiry

This project was very successful. In fact, we extended on our Healthy Gardens, Healthy Bodies, Healthy Minds with design challenges througout the year. With the help of Lynn from "Let's Talk Science" students participated in design challenges about habitats and Earth Day. As well, students enjoyed thematic Jeopardy games with their across grade level peers throughout the year. For all activities, the focus was on student inquiry. Furthermore, this project went beyond student inquiry. It gave students the opportunity to have a hands-on experience with science and learning. It motivated them to learn and they were excited about science.

Our professional learning needs were met through the course of this project. We had the support of our colleagues and partners at MUN and "Let's Talk Science." There were sufficient professional development days which allowed true collaboration which would have otherwise been difficult given the nature of our school. In fact, relationships between grade 1 and 4 teachers were strengthened since normally we do not share the same schedule. Financial support allowed us to purchase a camera, items for the salad bar and smoothies and other gardening supplies.
