Pedagogical Beliefs

We believe that children are naturally curious and we should foster their curiosity. We can do this by encouraging them to ask questions. We realize that often during the unspoken demands of the curriculum, educators may stifle student questions due to time contraints. However, we realize that these questions can lead to improved understanding since the students are making the connections for themselves.

Florence Strang spearheaded our involvement in this project. When she approached the grade 1 and 4 teachers, the ideas of working across grade levels was very appealing. At Donald C. Jamieson Academy we encourage peer mentoring across grade levels. The professional development days and funding from MUN provided us with both the time and resources to successfully meet our goals.
